how does Percutafeine Gel work?

Pharmacotherapeutic group: “Dermatological drugs – Other dermatological drugs” – ATC code: D11AX.

Action mechanism

  • Caffeine is an alkaloid of the methyl xanthine class used in topical medications due to its ability to penetrate the skin barrier which can act in deeper layers. The main action of caffeine for the treatment of excess fat is lipolysis: it acts on fat cells.
  • After topical administration, the data indicate that caffeine tends to slow the expansion of adipose tissue, reduce the size of adipocytes and locally stimulate lipolysis.
  • Caffeine works by stimulating catecholamines, activating adrenergic receptors, and blocking adrenergic receptors, preventing excessive accumulation of fat. In addition, caffeine is able to stimulate the draining lymphatic systems in the subcutaneous tissue which allows the elimination of accumulated fat and toxins appearing during lipolysis.
